In recent years, Vietnam's coffee export industry has seen remarkable progress, solidifying its position in the international market. With advantages in climate, terrain, and farming expertise, Vietnam has become the world's second-largest coffee exporter, only behind Brazil.

Impressive Growth

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam's coffee export turnover reached a record $4.5 billion in 2024, up 18% compared to the previous year. Total export volume reached 1.8 million tons, an increase of 12% from 2023. The main export markets include the European Union (EU), the United States, Japan, and South Korea.

Notably, the export value of coffee has risen significantly due to improved product quality. Vietnam has focused not only on Robusta coffee—its traditional strength—but also on developing Arabica coffee and processed coffee products such as instant coffee and coffee capsules.

Efforts to Improve Quality

Vietnam's coffee industry has been implementing various solutions to enhance the value-added aspect of its products. Many businesses have adopted sustainable production models, achieving international certifications such as UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, and Fair Trade. These improvements have not only enhanced coffee quality but also met the stringent standards of international markets.

In addition, national branding campaigns for Vietnamese coffee have been vigorously promoted, especially at international fairs and exhibitions. This has helped elevate the image of Vietnamese coffee and attracted the attention of many potential partners.

Challenges and Prospects

Despite its achievements, Vietnam's coffee industry still faces several challenges, including climate change, competition from other coffee-exporting countries, and pressure from environmental protection regulations. However, with a sustainable development strategy and government support, Vietnam's coffee industry is forecast to continue its strong growth momentum in the coming years.

In the future, focusing on quality improvement, product diversification, and market expansion will be key to helping Vietnam's coffee industry not only maintain but also strengthen its position on the global coffee map.

Vietnam's coffee export industry is experiencing a period of remarkable development, with opportunities and challenges intertwined. With continuous efforts from businesses and government support, Vietnamese coffee is poised to conquer new heights in the international market.
